A tragic accident in the Sangotedo area of Lagos has claimed one life and left two others injured after a gas tanker burst into flames near Ologuro Bus Stop, directly opposite a Total filling station.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed the incident in an official statement issued on Saturday by its Permanent Secretary, Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu.

Reports indicate that the explosion occurred when a tipper truck, which had no visible registration number, crashed into the rear of a gas tanker. The impact immediately sparked a fire.
Initial findings suggest that excessive speed and careless driving on the part of the truck driver led to the collision. The driver died on the spot due to the severity of the crash.

Two women sustained minor injuries in the incident and were promptly attended to by personnel from the Lagos State Ambulance Services, who administered first aid at the scene.
The resulting fire spread to nearby roadside shops, destroying four of them and causing considerable losses. Authorities also noted that the tanker’s contents are still being handled carefully as recovery operations continue.

Emergency teams, including LASEMA’s Shark Response Unit, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, and LASAMBUS, responded quickly and were able to contain the blaze before it reached surrounding buildings.
Officials have since brought the situation under control and assured the public that updates will follow as cleanup and recovery efforts progress.
