The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has ordered troops under the 4 Special Forces Command to step up offensive operations against terrorists and insurgents operating across the country.

During his first operational tour of the formation in Doma, Nasarawa State, on Tuesday, the army chief told personnel that the fight against armed groups must be aggressive, coordinated and sustained.

The visit, detailed in a statement by the Army spokesperson, Col. Appolonia Anele, included engagements with officers and soldiers of both the 4 Special Forces Command and the Nigerian Army Special Forces School.

Addressing the troops, Shaibu emphasised that Special Forces units play a critical role in dismantling criminal networks that threaten national stability. He underscored the importance of intelligence-led missions and precision strikes, noting that modern security challenges require swift, decisive and well-coordinated action.

According to him, the military must move beyond reactive tactics and instead maintain constant operational pressure on hostile elements. He warned that insurgents and other violent actors would no longer find safe havens anywhere within Nigeria’s borders.

Earlier, the army chief received operational updates from the Commander of the 4 Special Forces Command, Major General Olurotimi Azubuike Awolo, and the Commandant of the Nigerian Army Special Forces School, Brigadier General Umar Faruk Abubakar. He commended the formation’s training standards and operational preparedness.

To strengthen capacity, Shaibu approved the immediate construction of additional accommodation and other key facilities aimed at improving training output, operational effectiveness and troop welfare. He also assured soldiers that the well-being of personnel and their families remains a top priority under his leadership.

He reiterated the need for continued investment in advanced training, logistics support and modern combat equipment to maintain a strategic edge over adversaries.

The directive comes amid rising security concerns in parts of the North Central region, particularly in Nasarawa and Niger states, where recent attacks by armed groups have unsettled communities and renewed calls for stronger military intervention.
