In a renewed call for harmony within the Yoruba traditional institution, the Alaafin, Oba Owoade, has praised the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, describing his reign as exemplary and rooted in resilience and commitment to the wellbeing of his people.

Oba Owoade, who offered prayers for a more prosperous reign for the Ooni, said the Ife monarch’s “wisdom, warmth, and friendliness” continue to foster stability and civility across Ile-Ife. He noted that the moment called for deep reflection and gratitude.

“If gratitude opens the heart, then the Ooni’s heart must be overflowing with joy at this time,” he said. “When you focus on the good in every situation, gratitude fills your life. It nurtures the soul and brings moments of reverence, those rare, awe-inspiring experiences that transform how we see the world.”

Speaking further, the Alaafin used the occasion to urge Yoruba monarchs to close ranks and strengthen cooperation, insisting that unity remained central to the preservation of the traditional institution.

“As kings, our duties are clear: to safeguard peace, culture and tradition,” he stated. “We are not religious leaders. Our mandate, as written in our certificates of office, is to protect the heritage passed down by our ancestors and ensure these legacies never fade.”

He emphasized that genuine unity can only grow from trust, mutual respect and shared aspirations, adding that monarchs must build relationships founded on brotherliness and common purpose.

The Alaafin also highlighted the importance of embracing Nigeria’s cultural diversity, describing it as a critical pillar of true federalism. He stressed that countries with multiple ethnic identities must consistently work toward national integration and the strengthening of unity in diversity.

“Nigeria’s rich mosaic requires continuous effort to sustain cohesion. We must keep finding ways to deepen this unity,” he said.
Concluding his remarks, Oba Owoade extended heartfelt goodwill to the Ooni, wishing him “many more fruitful and prosperous years on the throne.”
