Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has reignited tensions with former President Olusegun Obasanjo, just days after both men appeared to reconcile their long-standing political feud.

The two had been reported to have settled their differences recently, with Obasanjo even attending Fayose’s 65th birthday celebration in Lagos on Saturday. During the event, the former president joked about past verbal attacks from Fayose but stated that he had forgiven him.

However, the fragile truce appears to have collapsed. In a strongly worded “Thank You” message reportedly sent to Obasanjo, and released to journalists on Monday by the former president’s media aide, Kehinde Akinyemi, Fayose expressed displeasure over Obasanjo’s remarks at the event.

In the message, Fayose criticized the former president’s comments, writing:

“Dear Baba Obasanjo, I trust this meets you well. Your coming to my birthday party, I appreciate it, except for your very irresponsible comments at your age.”

He went on to issue harsher words, saying, “You went so low, but I am not surprised because someone once said you are supposed to be kept away in the zoo. Sincerely, that’s where you belong.”

Fayose added that he remained silent during the event to allow the public “see the difference between a sane and a mad man,” alleging that Obasanjo had “lost [his] sanity” or was experiencing “a heightened stage of dementia.”

He concluded by saying: “Not to worry, Baba, I shall set the records straight in due course.”

The latest outburst indicates that the long-standing rift between the two political figures may be far from over.
