The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has dismissed claims circulating on social media that Lieutenant A.M. Yarima was trailed by unidentified men in two unmarked Hilux vans in the Kubwa area of Abuja on Sunday evening.
Earlier, military sources alleged that the occupants of the vehicles followed the naval officer from the NIPCO Filling Station along the Kubwa Motorway through Gado Nasco Road, prompting Yarima to employ evasive manoeuvres.
In a statement released on Monday, the FCT Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, described the reports as false and unverified.
“The attention of the FCT Police Command has been drawn to publications circulating on social media alleging an attempted assassination on Lt Ahmed Yerima,” the statement read. “The Command wishes to categorically state that no such incident has been reported or recorded anywhere within the Federal Capital Territory.”
She urged members of the public to disregard the claims and refrain from spreading misinformation capable of causing fear or unnecessary tension.
“For the safety of all residents, the Command encourages the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police division,” Adeh added.
